In 1631, when Rembrandt was still a young man, he moved from his hometown of Leiden to Amsterdam, the business capital of Holland. The artist quickly became part of the city’s local art scene, flourishing there until 1669, when he died a poor man, his work no longer popular. In Toronto, this exhibition of 17th-century Dutch paintings makes Rembrandt its centerpiece, with seven masterpieces attributed to him on view together for the first time. —Elena Clavarino
