The internet gives us the chance to view countless pieces of art from collections and exhibitions around the world. It is rare, however, for computer images to have the visceral impact of art seen in person. Yet scrolling through the online page for the exhibition “Time + Space,” even there the images have power. The show features paintings, photographs, and sculptures by 16 international artists commenting on notions of memory, life, time, place, and materials. Made between 1970 and today, the pieces were created with various focuses, ranging from nostalgia and the passing of time to the ways in which we understand and interact with physical space. Put together, their individual beauty is emphasized. Sharing a sense of stillness and quiet, the works reveal that ephemerality, contemplation, and nostalgia elicit sensations shared across generations. Artists include Ed Ruscha, George Shaw, Prunella Clough, Jem Southam, and Olafur Eliasson. —Jeanne Malle
