The Dante Project

Artists of the Royal Ballet in The Dante Project.

Nov 18 – Dec 2, 2023
Bow St, Covent Garden, London WC2E 9DD, UK

“Midway upon the journey of our life / I found myself within a forest dark, / For the straightforward pathway had been lost.” So begins “Inferno, Canto I.” Dante Aligheri completed his Divine Comedy in 1321, and 700 years later, in 2021, the choreographer Wayne McGregor presented his completed ballet The Dante Project, which has been acclaimed ever since. Dance, music, stage design, and lighting combine to express, in three acts, Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise. The score was composed by Thomas Adès, and Tacita Dean provided the set and costume design. The ballet travels from that “forest dark” to “the Love that moves the sun and the other stars.” —Laura Jacobs
