The Ensemble

Staud

If you’re getting a little tired of floaty floral dresses, we hear you. As we approach the final weeks of summer, why not try something a bit contrarian? Enter this 70s-esque ensemble from Staud. Made of stretch ponte, the high-rise pants and asymmetric top were designed with comfort in mind. It feels like pajamas but will turn heads—in a good way—on Via Monte Napoleone. Not like we’re headed there imminently, but a girl can dream. (top, $250; pants, $195; net-a-porter.com)

The Everyday Earrings

Verdura

Although we have admirably worn our usual festive summer styles avec mask, the overall effect is a bit … confused. If there was ever a time to invest in a pair of classic, mood-enhancing, highly versatile gold studs, it is now. Especially these Jamais/Toujours beauties from Verdura, made of 18-karat gold, diamond, and blue enamel. Dreamed up by Duke Fulco di Verdura in the mid-1930s, they perfectly capture his famous sense of humor. Take them off jamais and enjoy them toujours—until the next generation insists on borrowing them, that is. ($4,500; verdura.com)

The Bucket Hat

Loeffler Randall

We have nothing against straw hats—see the top shelf of our closet for evidence—but, truth be told, we prefer something a bit more streamlined for rambling around town. The Hester bucket hat from Loeffler Randall is just the thing. The wide brim ensures protection from the sun, while the charming ticking-stripe floral was chosen with versatility in mind. And when variety calls, it’s reversible, with a solid blush pink on the interior. ($65, loefflerrandall.com)

The Sunglasses

Goodr

Cursing yourself for losing yet another pair of Oliver Peoples? Some organized types hang on to designer shades for decades, but your Air Mail style correspondent is not that woman. Especially in the summer, when outdoor activities abound, which is why these $25 beauties from Goodr make so much sense. Flexible, scratch- and slip-averse, and available in dozens of color combinations, they’re just the thing to be worn on the tennis court or in the ocean. And if they get swept away by a wave, well, c’est la vie. ($25, amazon.com)
