Eduardo Chillida was born in 1924 in San Sebastián, in the Basque country of Spain. Throughout his life, Chillida journeyed across the Mediterranean, studying cultures that would inform his art. First he traveled to Greece, examining the nuances of Pre-Classical architecture. Then came adventures in Italy. Finally, Menorca. There he was seduced by the island’s wind and white light. Chillida, who died in 2002, created mysteriously stoical sculptures in iron, wood, and steel. And he was fascinated by the intricacies of landscape. In this exhibition, 60 works celebrate Chillida’s connection with the smallest Balearic island. —Elena Clavarino
